An English ship's sign "WC Use only in open sea" - Mostyn House School
Unusually for a maritime piece this was found in the garages of the renowned Mostyn House School in Parkgate Wirral following its closure in 2010. Mostyn House School was a school that was originally opened in Tarvin by Edward Henry Price, and moved to Parkgate, Cheshire, in 1855. From 1862 until it closed in 2010, it was run by the Grenfell family, originally as a boys' boarding school, and latterly as a co-educational day school.
The brass sign on mahogany is reminiscent of the days of the great ocean going liners.
Marks of paint to sides and back where it has been on a door which has been painted.
Measuring: 15 cm across
England, c. 1930-1950
