An early 19th century provincial portrait of a gentleman
We like this chap a lot. Painted by J. Collins of Manchester in Liverpool in July 1831, it is a nice example of the naive portraits of the period. He has 'had a life' with patches and overpainting resulting in some patches of discolouration, but for us, his almost 200 year history means we can forgive this. In a later frame.
