A Geroge III period pen ink and watercolour of the Plymouth to London Mail coach with carriage number and royal crest displayed. The coachmen are beautifully detailed although the passengers are in the shadows. This should be of little surprise as, as happens very rarely, the coachmen are named to the back of the painting as Jas Pollard (back) and R. Howell (front), This is unusual but explains the level of detail shown in the two men. The detail and accuracy of the coach and horses really is very good.

A beautifully detailed study.

There is foxing throughout which adds to the character of this very early 19th century painting. Back later but names have been transferred from a previous back.

Provenance: from a longstanding private collection

Measuring: Frame: 10.5" x 7" Sight (excluding mount) 13" x 9"
