A slender Regency mahogany estate cabinet by repute from a Cambridge university college
In untouched original condition, a mahaognay 'estate cabinet' of good colour at just 28 cm deep, the interior contains 49 pigeon holes for, each measuring 17 cm x 12 cm, and each one with a paper label to the underside. To the cabinet sides are original brass swan neck handles. The original working lock is in place and it retains a key. To the back rather than a flat panel, there is moulding and 4 panel design, suggesting it may have intended for a position where the bar was in view rather than against a wall. In untouched original condition with a small are of veneer loss to the top right.
A rather useful and attractive early 19th century cabinet by repute having been formally house in a Cambridge University college. Inside it has later panel label with inventory number suggesting such an institutional use.
