A  leather hat dating to the early to mid part of the 19th century.   Sometimes referred to in general terms as a costemonger's hat, this example was more likely to have belonged to be a miner's hat due to the two small holes where a lamp or candle is likely to have been attached at one point.   The hat leather is hard and the hat worn by some with quite a large head.
