Early 19th century winged settle
NOW SOLD
Settles of this type sat in farmhouses, cottages and taverns from the early 19th century. This particular winged settle of good proportions was a style that offered protection from draughts as the large fireplaces of the time needed a strong flow of air.
This provincial pine settle is curved and has, at some point in its life, had the original finish removed, possibly red hinting at perhaps west country origins. This has happened long enough ago to allow a rather pleasing patina and good colour to develop through regular use. One small historic repair to right hand arm and seat.
Measuring: 186 cm wide, 157 cm high, 45 cm deep, height to seat 46cm deep approx (73" wide, 62" high, 18" deep, 18 cm height to seat approx)
