Victorian asylum laundry table
A Victorian scrub top table of good proportions in original untouched condition. Originally the table was used in the laundry at Fairfield Hospital, Biggleswade, Bedfordshire which opened in 1860 as an asylum. The table, which dates to around 1860, was most likely housed in the asylum from its opening. The hospital closed in 1999. Legislation in 1930 meant that the name was changed to Fairfield hospital and the term 'asylum' was no longer used.
The table retains the original paint finish and top.
